Art
At Shirley Heath, children’s creativity and individuality are valued and respected and that is why we believe art is central to a well-rounded education. Children are provided with rich opportunities to develop their skills in drawing, painting, clay sculpture and three-dimensional modelling; where they are able to grow their confidence and exploration using a wide range of materials.
Through the progression of skills from Year 3 to Year 6 children will learn to show control and dexterity as they explore, develop and refine their work. They will be given the opportunity to research and develop an appreciation and a critical awareness of the work of artists and architects that have had an influence on buildings, fashion and design around us, as well as those from other communities, cultures and periods of time. Children, through their sketchbook, will learn to work in a sustained and independent way from observation, experience and imagination.
