M.F.L.

You live a new life for every language you speak. If you only know one language, you only live once.’

Czech proverb

Our vision: At Shirley Heath, our aim is that all children will have a firm foundation in reading, writing and speaking French to prepare them for further study in a foreign language. Through learning a foreign language, the children will be engaged and excited to see a life beyond their own community to the wider world.

  • As a school, we teach French using the Rising Stars, Euro Stars publication from Year 3 to Year 6. The Euro Stars scheme uses the 3 strands of Oracy (speaking and listening), Literacy (reading and writing) and Intercultural Understanding. The 24 units (6 units in each of the 4 year groups), which show steps in progression. Progression can be seen within a year group and between year groups.
  • Throughout the Euro Stars scheme, there are opportunities for children to revise prior knowledge, which helps to embed the knowledge into Long Term memory. This allows the children to progress, learn and use new vocabulary.
  • All children, regardless of ability, are challenged and supported to be able to recall and use some French language.
